“The Mysterious Mechanic” is the nickname of my virtual Avatar. I’ve been creating virtual objects, environments and experiences for almost 10 years now. Until recently I was never able to bring those things into meaningful existence in my physical world or vice versa. It was the recent creation of my charity organization, The Sunday Project, that finally enabled me to blend these 2 creative worlds into a cohesive whole. Utilizing virtual products and entertainment to raise money through micro-donations for Real World charity organizations.
The impact of doing this and the new perspectives it offered really set me free creatively in BOTH worlds. Establishing a transparency between my creations in the virtual world and my creations in the physical world, joining the two seamlessly which simultaneously opened brand new avenues of creative thought and ideas.
For me, the constraints of being creative only in the physical world are many, as I tend to have ideas that break a lot of physics rules. But in the virtual world, these rules do not apply. Things like gravity, mass, atmosphere and temperature do not exist there. Everything in that world is created by its residents so what one avatar sees and experiences comes from the minds of others who created them and brought them into that world.
Hence, you are literally walking through the dreams, thoughts and ideas of other people when you explore the virtual world of Second Life.
I found this concept fascinating 10 years ago and I still do today.
